ABSTRACT
Abstract. A global in-situ data set for validation of ocean-colour products from the ESA Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI) is presented. This version compilation, starting in 1997, now extends to 2021, which important most recent satellite optical sensors such as Sentinel 3B OLCI and NOAA-20 VIIRS. The comprises observations following variables: spectral remote-sensing reflectance, concentration chlorophyll-a, inherent properties, diffuse attenuation coefficient total suspended matter. Data were obtained multi-project archives acquired via open internet services, or individual projects, directly providers. Methodologies implemented homogenisation, quality control merging all data. Minimal changes made on original data, other than conversion a standard format, elimination some points after averaging that close time space. result merged table available text format. Overall, size grew with 151,673 rows, each row representing unique station space (cf 136,250 rows previous version; Valente et al., 2019). Observations reflectance increased 68,641 59,781 There was also near tenfold increase chlorophyll since 2016. Metadata situ measurement (original source, cruise experiment, principal investigator) are included final table. By making metadata available, provenance better documented, it possible analyse separately. compiled at https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.941318 (Valente 2022).
