ABSTRACT
Data for mucilage collected from 8 maize genotypes bred under different climatic conditions and grown under a common garden experiment in Bayreuth, Germany, with three replicates. Monosaccharide composition was analyzed by GC-MS (following aldononitrile acetatylation for sugars and methyloxime trimethylsilylation for uronic acids) and expressed in percent of total carbohydrate measured. Exudation amounts per square mm of root surface area were also measured, as well as the saturated water content of the mucilage. Finally, vapor pressure deficit in the area of origin was calculated as a representation of water stress for that climate (see manuscript for details).
