ABSTRACT
Introduction This study aimed to evaluate whether the combination of erythropoietin (EPO) and tranexamic acid (TXA) exerted any additional benefits on number blood transfusions required haematological parameters compared with TXA alone following primary bilateral simultaneous total hip arthroplasty. Materials methods We conducted a single-centre, prospective, randomised, controlled trial at our hospital. Group EPO + (n = 30) received daily subcutaneous injections (10,000 IU) preoperative days 1-4 postoperative 1-3. Additionally, these patients were administered (15 mg/kg) 10 min prior incision. 32) only The outcomes required. secondary loss, drainage volume, complications. Results amount transfusion mean per patient was lower in group than (p 0.039, p 0.023; respectively). In period, had higher (haemoglobin, haematocrit, reticulocyte count) TXA. No significant differences found DVT or PE between 2 groups. Conclusions showed that administrating can increase reduce need for without increasing risk alone.
