A non-ideal global basic structure

Focusing on the basic structure as subject of justice has tended to lead theorists make a choice: either there is no global and therefore obligations remain domestic only (the statist position) or sufficient institutional basis at level warrant affirming in scope, meaning that duties must also be cosmopolitan position). Recent literature, however, pointed out this might false choice between denying asserting existence structure. There are two main claims I paper. First, claim Rawlsian understanding structure, does not require one before its demands arise, but rather under certain conditions, can established an essential part fulfilling demands. This benefit restricting scope sphere. Thus, second about determining, from practice-dependent, non-ideal starting point, what those “certain conditions” are. Specifically, argue when currently existing institutions begin impacting freedom individuals interact against fair backdrop pervasively impact life chances, then will arise we need establish paper, then, implications for ideal/non-ideal theory debate, because best way globalize point.Article first published online: 9 NOV 2015
