Palliative Treatment of Malignant Inoperable Esophageal Strictures with Self-Expandable Metallic Stents: Single Center Experience with 155 Patients

ABSTRACT
Objective: A retrospective study was designed to investigate the success and complication rates of different types self-expandable metallic stents in patients with inoperable malignant esophageal strictures. Material Methods: One hundred fifty five strictures received under fluoroscopic guidance our clinic between years 1994 2008. total 137 men 18 women aged 26- 83 (mean age, 58.9 years) were included study. Stent used include Strecker, Wallstent, covered Flamingo Choo Song Stent. Complications stent dysphagia scores evaluated both prior placement afterwards. Results: delivery tecnique successful all patients. The average score decreased from 3.1 (dysphagia liquids) 1.2 normal solid food) providing a 1.9 improvement score. In eight cases (5.2%) early complications such as malposition migration detected. 30 (19.4%) late ingrowth, overgrowth, coexistence ingrowth migration, esophago-bronchial fistula bleeding Conclusion: Placement palliative treatment is an easily applied, well-tolerated effective method which improves low rates. Our results are agreement literature. selection ideal for each patient great importance.
