ABSTRACT
Purpose: To investigate the relationship between brain injury patterns on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and neurodevelopmental outcomes in neonates with postasphyxial hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).Methods: Clinical characteristics MRI findings of 49 term HIE were retrospectively reviewed.Brain classified into five categories, along evaluation posterior limb internal capsule (PLIC).Neurodevelopmental assessed by neurological ex amination combined Bayley Scales Infant Development II 1 2 years age.Results: Twentythree (46.9%) showed abnormal finding asso ciated poor (odds ratio 9.7, 95% confidence interval 1.4, 67.4,P=0.022).The following seen MRI: abnor mality basal gangliathalamus (BGT) 4 (17.4%), watershed pre dominant (WP) pattern 5 (21.7%), extensive global (EGI) 3 (13.0%),les ions restricted to periventricular white matter (LPWM) perinatal arterial stroke (PAIS) (8.7%).Additionally, 6 neonate (26.1%) lesion PLIC.Neonate BGT EGI worse neuro developmental than those WP LPWM (P<0.05).Neonate PLIC also (100%).Conclusion: Abnormal associated outcomes.BGT, pat terns are expected have predo minant such as LPWM.
