Food consumption among older adults: differences between men and women

ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the eating habits of older men and women who live in Brazilian state capitals Federal District. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was based on data from Surveillance System for Risk Protective Factors Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey (Vigitel, 2018) (n = 15,338 adults, age ≥ 65 years). Diet assessed as consumption healthy foods (vegetables, fruits, natural juice, natural/minimally processed foods) unhealthy (soft drinks/artificial soft drinks, ultra-processed weekly, daily, and/or day before interview. Food prevalence estimated according to sex, associations were determined using Wald test adjusted logistic regression. Results: The sample 60.70% women. Women more likely than consume raw vegetables, cooked juice they less drinks during any given week. Regarding daily consumption, fruit or drinks. On prior interview, reported having consumed minimally men, except beans cereals. foods, participants consuming dairy bread cookies, meats. Conclusions: among adults differs indicating that nutritional education strategies aimed at promoting adequate are needed, especially men.
