ABSTRACT
This paper aims to find out how Al-Ghazali, Lawrence Kolberg, and Thomas Lichona think about character education in contemporary Islam. The benefits for the government educators make educational ideas of an inspiration upholding quality Indonesian education. research method is qualitative with descriptive analysis techniques using library (library research). Through this literature review, researchers try describe existing phenomena, which are currently taking place or past, sourced from various sources that have theoretical depth experts. study examines perspective according Lickona, Kolberg by examining theories put forward. results Al-Ghazali thinking religious-ethical nature, al-Ghazali's goals cover three aspects, namely cognitive affective psychomotor aspects. mentioned four scientific classification categories, namely; science syar'iyah (religion) 'aqliyah (reason); practical sciences; knowledge presented (hudhûri) acquired (hushûli); fardhu 'ain kifayah. Meanwhile, Lickona stated notion a deliberate effort help someone understand, pay attention to, carry core ethical values. And more broadly, he (conscious) realize virtue, objectively good human traits, not only individuals but also society as whole. According Kohlberg offers fictional moral issues, so context nation, it necessary prioritize issues actually occur everyday life. In case, what needs be emphasized children diverse experiences social problems. Children must confronted problems different perspective. Thus diversity perspectives solving will encourage children's development higher stage.
