ABSTRACT
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of Chyawanprash in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection among health care personnel working at COVID-19 isolation ward. Setting: A hospital designated as centre Delhi, India Participants: Apparently healthy workers (HCWs) age 20 to 60 years who were RT PCR negative asymptomatic but possibly had exposure active cases COVID- 19, with or without co-morbid conditions included. Pregnant lactating females, volunteers malignancy, uncontrolled blood sugar, chronic renal failure, heart hematological disorders, those on immunosuppressants excluded from study. Interventions: Chyawanprash, an Ayurvedic rasayana medicine 12 gm orally warm water twice daily for 30 days along standard preventive measures adopted by institute. Primary Outcome: Incidence confirmed RT-PCR test. Secondary Outcomes: Evaluation study drug through & biochemical investigations occurrence any adverse reaction events; number participants developing other bacterial, viral fungal during period changes inflammatory immune markers. Results: At end period, out total 50 enrolled, two COVID -19 positive. rate similar population same setting prior commencing (9.71%) after completing (1.79%) was compared incidence treatment (1.09%). So, showed protection 98.91%. It well tolerated all participants, when administered days. Conclusions: The dropped significantly following administration Chyawanprash. As shows potential a prophylactic agent against infection, is safe used recommended dosage, randomized controlled trial prove its can be designed larger sample size.
