Linear Body Measurements and Slaughter Characteristics of Meat Goats in the Semi-Arid Zone of North-Western Nigeria.

Thirty two intact male goats representing eight replicates of breeds (Sokoto Red Versus Sahel) and ages (Young Mature) were investigated for linear body measurements conformational traits. All had higher values (P<0.05) in the Sahel except chest girth, width depth, which did not differ significantly between breeds. Mature all than young goats. carcass also mature traits; slaughter weight, Body mass index (BMI) empty weight traits BMI where Sokoto was superior (46.20 versus 41.45). It observed that age a greater influence on breed.
