Studying the Rate and Causes of Discharge Against Medical Advice in Hospitals Affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences

Discharge against medical advice from the hospital is an important issue point of view treatment management, health costs as well side effects stop on patients and their accompanying. Therefore, managers planners should consider predisposing factors that change patient's mind in this regard. Since, there has been no study to carefully assess rate causes self-discharge province, so aimed fill gap.This descriptive cross-sectional was carried out 6 months period, 23 July 2010 till 20 January 2011 all public hospitals Mazandaran province. A form set for data collection those willing were asked participate study. Patients' demographic information filled using record by help department personnel. Furthermore, completed parents over 18 year-old or first-rank relative having psychiatric disorders anybody who wasn't able complete form. In order identify self-discharge, variables determined which categorized three general items five main groups. Data entered into SPSS15 analyzed statistics indices.According results, 94441 discharged university 7967 (8.4 %) them self-discharged during month period. Regarding admission type, 269 (3.3 %), (54.5 admitted pre-determined appointment usual patients, respectively, rest emergency department. Also, 31.4%(2504) hospitalized surgery ward, 63% (5026) 4.6% (374) intensive care unit (ICU) ward. The most reasons related to: 1-factors affecting patient illness (54.3%), 2-environmental issues patients' accompanying (37.6%) 3-managerial reasons(7.9%), respectively.Our showed same results others. From its be considered practices done improve conditions. Meanwhile, current doesn't reflect problem it revised.
