Gender affirmative care of transgender people: a single center's experience in Korea

ABSTRACT
To investigate the clinical characteristics and medical management of transgender people in South Korea.The electronic records 54 persons who had visited Soonchunhyang University Hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 for care were retrospectively reviewed. We identified patient demographics gender identity-related characteristics. Moreover, we compared our hospital protocol with official guidelines.At time record search, average age these 52 was 27 years, 46 (88.5%) Korean. Ten (19.2%) a mental disorder other than dysphoria. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist, estrogen, antiandrogen agents, testosterone used according guidelines issued by World Professional Association Transgender Health Endocrine Society. persons, including 6 (22.2%) male-to-females (MTFs) 4 (16.0%) female-to-males (FTMs), Among administered testosterone, 3 high triglyceride lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Nine patients, (66.7%) MTFs (33.3%) FTMs, underwent both gonadectomy affirmative surgery. Seven (43.8%) 1 (14.3%) MTF (85.7%) only gonadectomy. There significant difference (P=0.040) between FTMs.Medical providers should have adequate knowledge experience managing be familiar relevant literature. Long-term follow-up examinations also performed.
