ABSTRACT
People may picture restoration ecologists working in the field, but in reality, much of their time is spent analyzing collected data in order to communicate progress to stakeholders and guide adaptive management strategies. Data must be summarized numerically and visually to provide information. In this exercise, students will explore these techniques by connecting visual and numerical summaries of oyster restoration progress that Billion Oyster Project (BOP) provided in their annual monitoring reports to raw data stored in spreadsheets. Students will learn how to summarize data on their own using spreadsheet-style programs.
