ABSTRACT
Many human societies, rely on proceeds from mining of metals and fossil fuels for income generation as well resource supplies biodiversity. However, these activities are in conflict with threaten the sustainable utilisation conservation We used butterflies, a known bioindicator species surrogates to measure level change vegetation within Tarkwa Gold Mines (TGM) Ghana. Butterfly assemblages were sampled concession characterised terms diversity indices type. Transect counts, aerial netting charaxes trapping employed assess butterfly assemblages. Results showed that although there high records degraded forest savanna indicator species, fairly presence deep forested also shows some areas still good condition. Recommendations made maintain blocks serve refugia butterflies urge management institute measures restore old abandoned mined sites. recommend policy makers enact laws will ensure that, organisations lay down plans mine operations biodiversity before being granted licenses operate
