ABSTRACT
Aim: Obesity is a well known strong risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). We prospectively investigated the influence of body mass index (BMI) on inhibitory effects pravastatin against development atherosclerosis. Methods: In 56 patients with stable CAD, 3-dimensional intravascular ultrasound was performed in matched segments at baseline and after 6-month treatment pravastatin. Results: The plaque volume significantly reduced by 11% (p<0.001 vs. baseline). percent positively correlated BMI (r=0.37, p<0.001), negatively serum total cholesterol / high-density lipoprotein ratio (r=0.27, p<0.05) leukocyte count p<0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that an independent predictor change (beta coefficient: 0.326; 95% CI: 0.003 to 0.037; No correlations were found between changes levels any other lipids, apolipoproteins, or hs-CRP.Conclusion: present study demonstrated increase attenuated pravastatin-induced atherosclerosis regression. results may provide new insight into framework obese CAD.
