ABSTRACT
Ornamental peppers (Capsicum spp.) possess several characteristics of interest used in species breeding programs for selection purposes. Selection indices are useful and essential tools that allow simultaneous based on various characteristics. Although there available indices, do they differ indicating the best genotypes? This study aimed to estimate genetic parameters identify variables with moderate high heritability subject them different an F3 population ornamental pepper, observing congruences identifying genotypes be selected. 400 segregating generation were considered. The trial was conducted a greenhouse. plant height, time maturity, fruit quantity per plant, average mass. Genetic parameter estimates obtained using REML method each variable, subsequently, showing (Resende, 2002a) considered selection. Mulamba & Mock (MM) Multiplicative Index (IM) employed predict gains, pressure 20%. Both showed gains. MM presented highest values (ranging from 57.49% 309.37%), while multiplicative index varied 55.53% 199.2%. applied proved suitable genotype due predicted Among 80 selected genotypes, only 12.5% present both but positions rankings. results inconsistencies between genotypes.
