ABSTRACT
Percutaneous liver biopsy (LB) is the gold standard method for evaluation and management of patients with disease. The purpose this study was to characterize pediatric undergoing LB at British Columbia Children's Hospital, determine rate timing complications following procedure. medical records all pediat-ric who underwent during a six-year retrospective were reviewed collect demographic procedure-related data. 223 LBs performed, 179 these biopsies percutaneous or transjugular. Elevated enzymes cholestasis together accounted almost 70% indications LB, histological analysis tissue yielded specific diagnosis in 89 % cases. There no deaths major related LB. most frequent minor complication pain (59% LBs) other bleeding-related classified as minor. vast majority (88%) recognized within 8 h valuable safe procedure low complications.
