Composition and functional diversity of bacterial communities during swine carcass decomposition

ABSTRACT
This study investigated the changes in bacterial communities within decomposing swine microcosms, comparing soil with or without intact microbial communities, and under aerobic anaerobic conditions.The experimental microcosms consisted of four conditions: UA, unsterilized soil-aerobic condition; SA, sterilized UAn, soil-anaerobic San, condition. The were prepared by mixing 112.5 g 37.5 ground carcass, which then placed sterile containers. carcass-soil mixture was sampled at day 0, 5, 10, 30, 60 decomposition, that formed during carcass decomposition assessed using Illumina MiSeq sequencing 16S rRNA gene.A total 1,687 amplicon sequence variants representing 22 phyla 805 genera identified microcosms. Chao1 Shannon diversity indices varied between each period (p<0.05). Metagenomic analysis showed variation taxa composition across burial Firmicutes being dominant phylum, followed Proteobacteria. At genus level, Bacillus Clostridium main Firmicutes. Functional prediction revealed most abundant Kyoto encyclopedia genes genomes metabolic functions carbohydrate amino acid metabolisms.This demonstrated a higher bacteria UA UAn than SA SAn In addition, taxonomic community also exhibited changes, highlighting impact sterilization oxygen on decomposition. Furthermore, this provided insights into associated carcasses microcosm.
