ABSTRACT
In 2010-11 approximately 968 hip fracture patients presented to emergency departments in the Greater Toronto Local Health Integration Network (GTA-LHIN). Optimal pain management is a frequently overlooked aspect of patient care, which may contribute outcomes. Although recommendations have been published, there currently not standardized approach analgesic patient. Nerve blocks, including fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB), are more effective than traditional opioid analgesics reducing after fracture. Research suggests that analgesia via nerve blockade best initiated early, upon arrival department. Emergency physicians trained ultrasound, and do utilize regional anaesthesia; however, frequency utilization techniques used for insertion unknown. We sought undertake first survey Department (ED) staff resident across GTA-LHIN, looking at current ED practice patients. The primary aim was determine prevalence range utilized. The secondary aims were extent training techniques, gauge opinion on most important objectives future courses, seek an understanding barriers establishing patients. This data will be develop multidisciplinary program specifically use by physicians. anesthesiologists collaborate standardize optimal plan Sunnybrook Hospital.
