ABSTRACT
Postoperative venous thromboembolism is one of the most serious complications following total joint arthroplasty. Pharmacological and mechanical prophylaxis methods are used to reduce risk postoperative symptomatic deep vein thrombosis pulmonary embolism. Use pharmacological requires a fine balance between efficacy drug in preventing adverse effects associated with use these drugs. In regions low prevalence such as Korea, there might be question whether benefits using outweigh risks involved. The current article reviews need for thromboprophylaxis, guidelines, problems use, scenario thrombosis, discusses should mandatory incidence populations.
