Orthopedic approach to foreign body injuries

ABSTRACT
Objective: Although foreign body injuries are quite common, there an insufficient number of publications on this matter. The aim study was to evaluate patients with injuries, and determine the treatment algorithm. Methods: A total 97 were evaluated, including 53 men 44 women. Ninety-one underwent surgery, six treated conservatively. Surgery performed in operating room all cases. To ensure that removed, fluoroscopic control completed during after procedure. Antibiotics administered routinely patients, need for tetanus prophylaxis evaluated each patient. Results: mean age 16.5 (range: 2-58) years. Regarding type body, injury due to: a needle 65 glass 14, wood 7, iron spit 1, bar pieces metal 3, other bodies found 6 patients. There 25 upper extremity, 72 lower extremity. time admission hospital ranged from 1 day 3 Obvious signs infection detected 10 no complications follow-up who Conclusion: Foreign penetration is severe may cause significant problems when ignored. Treatment algorithms prepared according would guide most appropriate approach these injuries.
