ABSTRACT
Seismic attenuation was estimated from compressional (P) and shear (S) waves carefully extracted three-component vertical seismic profiling (VSP) data. A high sensitivity of to fluid content noticed, which shows the advantage its use as a attribute for reservoir studies. Contrary most observations in fully saturated sandstones, magnitude P S wave studied carbonate zones is higher than one. This disagreement probably because flow models developed describe mechanisms sandstones are not valid rocks due their complex texture. Moreover, controlled by saturation pore fluids clay content. Furthermore, magnitudes obtained at sonic VSP frequencies same order, attenuations show similar variation both frequencies. indicates frequency-independent oilfield.
