ABSTRACT
Mainland France is part of a plate interior with strong structural heritage, undergoing low rate deformation, where destructive earthquakes can nevertheless occur. In this paper, we emphasize that the knowledge active faults still largely fragmentary, and significant efforts are needed to generate robust data, in particular on numerous faults, lack any study. This aim “Failles ACTives France” (FACT) axis launched framework Transverse Seismicity Action (ATS) Resif-Epos consortium. We present some recent investigations carried out along suspected mountainous areas, their forelands remote lowlands, which implement new approaches tools, allow characterizing Quaternary activity.
