ABSTRACT
Background: In the pre-antiretroviral era, frequency of neurologic complications was associated with low baseline CD4+ T-cell counts. Introduction antiretroviral therapy (ART) has largely decreased incidence opportunistic infections and CNS neoplasia in recent two decades; however, virus replication persists cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neuronal tissues due to variable drug penetration as well development resistance. Although many previous studies have addressed presence manifestations course HIV infection; an update on type involvement, presenting signs symptoms, radiologic findings, response treatment is essential. Methods: a case series, we recruited 42 patients symptoms/signs concomitant infection 12 months during 2015 2016 at tertiary academic hospital. Information regarding diagnosis, laboratory final diagnosis were documented analyzed relation survival status each patient up one month hospitalization. Results: The mean age 39.7; 25 men, 19 newly diagnosed. Thirteen (31%) died treatment; from them, six Median CSF white blood cell counts significantly higher nonsurvivors; most common focal brain lesions; toxoplasmosis tuberculosis first etiologies; 79% recovered intended regimen. History abuse, not receiving antiretrovirals, CD4 counts, loss consciousness time admission been seen more among deceased patients. Conclusions: Neurologic presentations or lead high mortality rates. Early improvement compliance can reduce diseases.
