ABSTRACT
Writing in academic English is challenging and complex to learn, the root reasons for issue, may include differences cultural backgrounds of students, a deficiency critical thinking skills, linguistic proficiency. This study set out investigate how metafunctions be used enhance students' writing skills. A research approach incorporating qualitative case will employed assess ninth-grade text composition. The data were gathered through collecting student over school year 2021/2022. students’ writings texts that learnt grade nine based on curriculum. Systemic Functional Linguistic theory provide framework analysis. analyzed using metafunction analysis Hallidayan SFL uncover ability write text. teacher applied Genre-based Approach when instructing his or her students write. results presented was very important because there ideational, interpersonal, textual metafunctions. ideational revealed use some processes (material, mental, relational, verbal), interpersonal importance mood residue elements showed thematic progression pattern. indicated alleviate challenges strengthen their capacity, teachers should have better understanding Linguistics.
