ABSTRACT
Background and purpose Adolescence is a critical period for physical, emotional, cognitive development. High-quality sleep during this phase essential healthy growth, emotional well-being, optimal weight, learning. These factors significantly influence the academic achievements of young people. Purpose: to develop experimentally justify methodology training basketball teams humanitarian higher educational institutions, taking into account psychophysiological capabilities players. Material methods The sample consisted 626 secondary vocational school students aged 17 years from Central Slovakia region (353 girls 273 boys). Sleep quality was assessed using Pittsburgh Quality Index (PSQI). questionnaires were distributed electronically via Google Forms October 2023 March 2024. results analyzed with an emphasis on gender differences chi-square test (χ2), F-test, independent t-test at significance levels p<0.01 p<0.05, respectively. Results majority students, both boys girls, fell asleep between 11:00 PM midnight. average bedtime 10:54 10:50 boys, no significant genders. Significant found in wake-up times, nearly 40% waking up before 6:00 AM, compared only 24% (p<0.01). Boys experienced fewer difficulties falling asleep, 21% within 15 minutes (p<0.05). duration 6 hours 28 55 statistically difference efficiency (84.25%) (78.75%). problems, daytime dysfunction, mood changes more frequent among Only 28.33% 39.19% had good (p<0.01), while 17.00% 4.40% exhibited severe disturbances Conclusions Our findings indicate habits quality, consistent existing literature. highlight need increased attention issues adolescents implementation preventive intervention measures improve which could have positive impact their overall health well-being.
