Survival Rate of Second Primary Molars after Treatment with the Halterman Appliance: A Retrospective Study

ABSTRACT
This retrospective study evaluated the 24-month survival rates of second primary molars after treatment ectopic eruption maxillary permanent first molar with Halterman appliance. Patients diagnosed at Department Pediatric Dentistry Chosun University Dental Hospital and three private pediatric dental clinics between January 2017 December 2021 were included. involved 113 children (66 boys 47 girls) aged 5 to 9 years, utilizing electronic medical records panoramic radiographs for evaluation. Survival analysis was conducted using Kaplan-Meier method Cox proportional hazards regression models. The findings indicated that degree root resorption significantly influenced rates, cumulative 90.9% grade 1, 88.6% 2, 68.9% 3, 33.3% 4. risk premature loss approximately 8.7 times higher in 4 compared 1. No significant correlation found factors such as patient age, mesial angulation molar, or gingival emergence status molar. emphasizes critical need evaluate carefully consider anchorage design ectopically erupted molars, highlighting directions further research.
