Videolaryngostroboscopy and voice evaluation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

ABSTRACT
Arthritis may affect the larynx and produce symptoms such as hoarseness vocal fatigue.This paper aimed to evaluate laryngeal manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis.This is prospective study assessed 27 patients with arthritis aid videolaryngostroboscopy, auditory-perceptual analysis speech using GIRBAS scale, acoustic Voice Handicap Index questionnaire.Nineteen had complaints, main ones being intermittent dysphonia sensation a foreign body in throat. The most frequent laryngoscopical finding was overlapping arytenoids. Three low pitch, nine mild roughness. Median measures were: F0, 198.39 Hz; Jitter, 0.815; Shimmer, 4.915; NHR, 0.144. Regarding Index, median score zero all domains. There statistically significant correlation between voice complaints domains this index. Functional classes were significantly correlated to: arytenoids (p = 0.001), PPQ 0.0257), Shimmer 0.0295), APQ 0.0195), VHI physical 0.0227) total 0.0425).Laryngeal reported by 70.4% alterations observed 48% subjects. evaluation self-perception altered.
