ABSTRACT
Background: Cardiac tumors are extremely rare; however, when there is clinical suspicion, proper diagnostic evaluation necessary to plan the most appropriate treatment. In this context, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) plays an important role, allowing a comprehensive characterization of such lesions. Objective: To review cases referred CMRI Department for investigation cardiac and paracardiac masses. To describe positive case series with brief literature each type lesion role in evaluation. Methods: Between August 2008 December 2011, all suspicion tumor involving heart were reviewed.Cases histopathological diagnosis, evolution or therapeutic response compatible findings selected. Results: Among 13 included our study, eight (62%) had confirmation. We five benign (myxomas, rhabdomyoma fibromas), malignancies (sarcoma, lymphoma, Richter syndrome metastatic disease) three non-neoplastic lesions (pericardial cyst, intracardiac thrombus infectious vegetation). Conclusion: masses neoplastic origin, contributing more accurate diagnosis noninvasive manner assisting treatment planning, safe follow-up good reproducibility.(
