ABSTRACT
This study aimed to clarify the efficacy and safety of pancreatic duct lavage cytology combined with a cell-block method (PLC-CB) for possible ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs).This included 41 patients suspected PDACs who underwent PLC-CB mainly because they were unfit undergoing endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration. A 6-Fr double lumen catheter was used perform PLC-CB. Final diagnoses obtained from findings resected specimens or clinical outcomes during surveillance after PLC-CB.Histocytological evaluations using performed in 87.8% (36/41) patients. For 31 36 patients, final (invasive PDAC, 12; carcinoma situ, 5; benignancy, 14) made, remaining five excluded due lack periods sensitivity, specificity, accuracy detecting malignancy 94.1%, 100%, 96.8%, respectively. In addition, 87.5%, respectively, 17 without masses detectable ultrasonography. Four developed postprocedural pancreatitis, which improved conservative therapy.PLC-CB has an excellent ability detect malignancies PDACs, including situ.
