ABSTRACT
<div class="page" title="Page 1"><div class="layoutArea"><div class="column"><p><span>Speculative and fictional approaches have long been implemented in human-computer interaction design techniques through scenarios, prototypes, forecasting, envisionments. Recently, speculative critical reflectively explored questioned possible, preferable futures HCI research. We propose a complementary concept – material speculation that utilizes actual situated artifacts the everyday as site of inquiry. see literary theory possible worlds related counterfactual informative to this work. present five examples can be viewed speculations. conclude with discussion characteristics speculations their implications for future design-oriented research.</span></p></div></div></div>
