ABSTRACT
This 3 year prospective study evaluated the sensitivity and specificity of abdominal ultrasonography color Doppler in 31 neonates with suspected malrotation or volvulus. Water instillation was used to detect duodenal dilatation, edema, malrotated bowels. Twenty patients ultrasonographic characteristics inversion superior mesenteric artery vein were later surgically proved have malrotation. Nine these 20 also had Sonographic features suggestive volvulus included dilation tapering configuration (8 9 cases, 89%), fixed midline bowel whirlpool sign distal (5 5 100%). The for detecting 89% 92%, respectively; bowel, 92%; sign, vein, 56% 73%. results this indicate that could aid diagnosis malrotation, certain sonographic can be evaluate volvulus, a condition requiring emergent operation.
