ABSTRACT
Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the sequential changes rabbit liver tissue after high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation in histopathologic characteristics, apoptosis, and expression proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Methods Thirty-five rabbits were anesthetized received HIFU on livers laparotomy. Rabbits killed at 0, 1, 24, 72, 144, 216, 336 hours ablation. cut off examined under a light microscope with hematoxylin-eosin staining transmission electron microscope. Proliferating detected by immunohistochemical staining, apoptosis observed terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick end labeling (TUNEL). Results After ablation, fibra bands rim targeted areas 72 hours, band became wide sequentially. Cells labeled TUNEL PCNA-positive cells different extents surrounding tissues but not index reached peak value highest found 144 Apoptotic bodies oncotic mitochondria Conclusions coagulated necrotic organized encapsuled gradually. Apoptosis proliferation areas, which provided some implications for controlling treatment, although thermometry done correlate region cellular damage region, limiting correlation results.
