ABSTRACT
Botulism, very rare disease as it is, has long been reported in Europe and America, although no report referring to occurrence of this had presented Japan prior 1952, when Nakamura, Iida Saeki an outbreak type E botulism at Iwanai, Hokkaido, due herring-izushi. In the following year, another two outbreaks izushi involving fish were by same authors. Again, early October, 1953, authors learned fourth Hokkaido.Incidentally, concurrently with fouth four persons a family Tenno, small town upon coast near Lagoon Hachiro, Akita, developed symptoms them died. The incliminated foodstuff, gilthead-izushi, was shown possess botulinal toxin therefrom strain Cl, botulinum isolated. This adds up total Japan, all which organisms, five thirty-two cases nine fatalities. data relating known are table.
