Background Evaluation and feedback of hand hygiene (HH) compliance are important elements the WHO multimodal strategy for hospital infection control. Overt observation is recommended, but it may be confounded by Hawthorne effect. Covert offers opportunity to decrease observer bias. In this study we conducted a one year hospital-wide HH promotion program that included medical students (MS) as covert observers. Methods five indications was determined trained validated The overt observers...

Sepsis has been a factor of acute kidney injury (AKI); however, little is known about dialysis-requiring AKI and the risk severe sepsis after survival to discharge. We conducted population-based cohort study based on Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database from 1999 2009. We identified patients with requiring dialysis during hospitalization survived for at least 90 days discharge, matched them those without according age, sex, concurrent diabetes. The primary outcome was sepsis,...

The prevalence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) colonization or infection in the hospital setting has increased globally. Many previous studies had analysed risk factors for acquiring VRE, based on cross-sectional prevalent cases. However, actual incidence and VRE remain unclear. present study was conducted order to clarify intensive care unit (ICU). From 1(st) April 2008 31(st) March 2009, all patients admitted a surgical ICU (SICU) were put active surveillance VRE. cultures,...

Background Tuberculosis is a common infectious disease in long-term dialysis patients. The prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) this population unclear, particularly those receiving peritoneal (PD). This study investigated the LTBI patients either hemodialysis (HD) or PD to determine predictors and indeterminate results interferon-gamma release assay. Methods Patients (≥3 months) HD from March 2011 February 2012 two medical centers were prospectively enrolled. QuantiFERON-Gold...

COVID-19 rebound is usually reported among patients experiencing concurrent symptomatic and viral rebound. But longitudinal RT-PCR results from early stage to of was less characterized. Further, identifying the factors associated with after nirmatrelvir-ritonavir (NMV/r) molnupiravir may expand understanding rebound. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data sequential receiving oral antivirals between April May, 2022. Abstract Background Healthcare personnel (HCP) are considered at higher risk for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) infections than the general population. Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a major pathogen that causes significant economic losses in the global poultry industry. Current vaccination strategies provide only partial protection, highlighting need for more effective prevention and treatment methods. Among the 219 vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolates collected in 20 Taiwanese hospitals from 2006 to 2010, all were susceptible linezolid and daptomycin, 98.6% tigecycline. There was a shift toward higher tigecycline MIC values (MIC(90)s) 2006-2007 (0.06 μg/ml) 2008-2010 (0.12 μg/ml). The MIC(90)s of daptomycin remained stationary. Although pulsotypes among varied, intrahospital spreading several clones identified 13 hospitals.

Taiwan has integrated the previous vertical tuberculosis (TB) control system into general health care system.
