Timely diagnostic investigation to establish the microbial etiology of pneumonia is essential ensure administration effective antibiotic therapy individual patients. We evaluated a multiplex PCR assay panel, FilmArray® panel (FilmArray PP, BioFire Diagnostics), for detection 35 respiratory pathogens and resistance determinants compared performance standard-of-care test in intensive care unit patients with lower tract infections.Among 59 endotracheal aspirates bronchoalveolar lavage specimens...
Background Evaluation and feedback of hand hygiene (HH) compliance are important elements the WHO multimodal strategy for hospital infection control. Overt observation is recommended, but it may be confounded by Hawthorne effect. Covert offers opportunity to decrease observer bias. In this study we conducted a one year hospital-wide HH promotion program that included medical students (MS) as covert observers. Methods five indications was determined trained validated The overt observers...
Sepsis has been a factor of acute kidney injury (AKI); however, little is known about dialysis-requiring AKI and the risk severe sepsis after survival to discharge. We conducted population-based cohort study based on Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database from 1999 2009. We identified patients with requiring dialysis during hospitalization survived for at least 90 days discharge, matched them those without according age, sex, concurrent diabetes. The primary outcome was sepsis,...
The prevalence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) colonization or infection in the hospital setting has increased globally. Many previous studies had analysed risk factors for acquiring VRE, based on cross-sectional prevalent cases. However, actual incidence and VRE remain unclear. present study was conducted order to clarify intensive care unit (ICU). From 1(st) April 2008 31(st) March 2009, all patients admitted a surgical ICU (SICU) were put active surveillance VRE. cultures,...
Background Tuberculosis is a common infectious disease in long-term dialysis patients. The prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) this population unclear, particularly those receiving peritoneal (PD). This study investigated the LTBI patients either hemodialysis (HD) or PD to determine predictors and indeterminate results interferon-gamma release assay. Methods Patients (≥3 months) HD from March 2011 February 2012 two medical centers were prospectively enrolled. QuantiFERON-Gold...
COVID-19 rebound is usually reported among patients experiencing concurrent symptomatic and viral rebound. But longitudinal RT-PCR results from early stage to of was less characterized. Further, identifying the factors associated with after nirmatrelvir-ritonavir (NMV/r) molnupiravir may expand understanding rebound. We retrospectively analyzed clinical data sequential receiving oral antivirals between April May, 2022. Viral defined by degree load increase (ΔCt ≥ 5 units).A total 58 27 taking...
The Tigecycline In Vitro Surveillance in Taiwan (TIST) study, a nationwide, prospective surveillance during 2006 to 2010, collected total of 7,793 clinical isolates, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (n = 1,834), penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP) 423), vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) 219), extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli 1,141), ESBL-producing Klebsiella 1,330), Acinetobacter baumannii 1,645), and...
Abstract Background Healthcare personnel (HCP) are considered at higher risk for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) infections than the general population. A national policy of MMR booster vaccination, targeting HCP born in or after 1981, was introduced 2013, with primary aim to boost weaned herd immunity against measles. The study aimed evaluate effect vaccination program a decade implementation. Tabel 1. Baseline characteristics serostatus among included participants Abbreviations: BMI,...
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a major pathogen that causes significant economic losses in the global poultry industry. Current vaccination strategies provide only partial protection, highlighting need for more effective prevention and treatment methods. This study aimed to develop novel compound throat anti-viral (CTA) from natural plants using data Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance System identification through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. CTA demonstrated...
Background Doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy-PEP) has shown efficacy in preventing bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with (MSM). We aimed to investigate the awareness and willingness toward doxy-PEP MSM real-world setting. Methods From October 2023 March 2024, we enrolled aged ≥18 years, including people HIV PrEP users Taiwan. Participants completed a questionnaire interview on sexual behaviors, STI history, use doxy-PEP. Factors associated...
Outbreaks of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection have been occurring among men who sex with in the Asia-Pacific region, United States, and several European countries since June 2015 recently persons are homeless use illicit drugs States. We evaluated serologic responses effectiveness HAV vaccination human immunodeficiency (HIV)-positive individuals during outbreak Taiwan. From 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016, anti-HAV immunoglobulin G was prospectively determined all HIV-positive individuals....
Among the 219 vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolates collected in 20 Taiwanese hospitals from 2006 to 2010, all were susceptible linezolid and daptomycin, 98.6% tigecycline. There was a shift toward higher tigecycline MIC values (MIC(90)s) 2006-2007 (0.06 μg/ml) 2008-2010 (0.12 μg/ml). The MIC(90)s of daptomycin remained stationary. Although pulsotypes among varied, intrahospital spreading several clones identified 13 hospitals.
The Tigecycline In Vitro Surveillance in Taiwan (TIST) study, initiated 2006, is a nationwide surveillance program designed to longitudinally monitor the vitro activity of tigecycline against commonly encountered drug-resistant bacteria. This study compared 3,014 isolates clinically important bacteria using standard broth microdilution and disk diffusion methods. Species studied included methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA; n = 759), vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium...
Taiwan has integrated the previous vertical tuberculosis (TB) control system into general health care system. With phase out of specialized TB and declining incidence, it is likely that clinical workers become less familiar with presentation TB, resulting in delay diagnosis treatment. We used detailed information visits National Health Insurance database to analyze temporal pattern (HSD) among 3,117 patients between 2003 2010. The median HSD was 29 days (interquartile range 5–73 days),...
