A mesophilic, anaerobic, fermentative bacterium, strain BN3 T , was isolated from a producing well of biodegraded oil reservoir in Canada. Cells were Gram-negative, non-motile rods that did not form spores. The temperature range for growth 15–40 °C, with optimum at 37–40 °C. grew up 4 % NaCl, the absence NaCl. Tryptone required growth. Yeast extract and elemental sulfur stimulated Growth also enhanced during fermentation glucose, arabinose, galactose, maltose, mannose, rhamnose, lactose,...

Microbial communities in two production waters of a low-temperature and low-salinity petroleum reservoir Canada were examined using cultural molecular approaches. The predominant cultivated microorganisms homoacetogens but sulfate-reducers, acetoclastic methanogens denitrifiers also gave significant counts. dominant members the culturable population affiliated with Firmicutes, "Deltaproteobacteria", "Epsilonproteobacteria", Spirochaetes Euryarchaeota. 16S rRNA gene clone libraries...

The French National Reference Center for Invasive Mycoses and Antifungals leads an active sustained nationwide surveillance program on probable proven invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) to determine their epidemiology in France. Between 2012 2018, a total of 10,886 IFDs were recorded. incidence increased slightly over time (2.16 2.36/10,000 hospitalization days, P = 0.0562) relation with increase fungemia (1.03 1.19/10,000, 0.0023), while that other remained stable. proportion ≥65-year-old...

An outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 caused by the Gamma variant concern infected 24/44 (55%) employees a gold mine in French Guiana (87% symptomatic, no forms). The attack rate was 60% (15/25) among fully vaccinated miners and 75% (3/4) unvaccinated without history infection.

Disseminated histoplasmosis is the first AIDS-defining infection in French Guiana. A retrospective cohort study studied predictive factors of disseminated HIV-infected patients between 1996 and 2008. Cox proportional hazards models were used. The variables age, sex, last CD4/CD8 count, CD4 nadir, herpes or pneumocystosis, cotrimoxazole fluconazole use, antiretroviral treatment notion recent initiation HAART. total 1404 followed for 6833 person-years. independently associated with increased...

ABSTRACT Human leishmaniases are widespread diseases with different clinical forms caused by about 20 species within the Leishmania genus. identification is relevant for therapeutic management and prognosis, especially cutaneous mucocutaneous forms. Several methods available to identify from culture, but they have not been standardized majority of currently described species, exception multilocus enzyme electrophoresis. Moreover, these techniques expensive, time-consuming, in all...

Malaria is endemic in French Guiana (FG), South America. Despite the decrease cases local population, illegal gold miners are very affected by malaria (22.3% of them carried Plasmodium spp.). Current testing for COVID-19 relies on reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction from a nasopharyngeal swab specimen. Saliva samples have advantages regarding ease and painlessness of collection, which does not require trained staff may allow self-sampling. We enrolled 776 persons at various field-testing sites collected pooled saliva samples. One hundred sixty two had positive RT-PCR, 61% were mildly symptomatic 39% asymptomatic. The sensitivity RT-PCR vs. nasopharygeal swabs varied...
