1. Experiments were done in fields of winter wheat at North Farm, West Sussex, and Rothamsted 1978 to investigate the effect predation by carabid beetles other polyphagous preadtors on populations cereal aphids. 2. Predator manipulated pitfall trapping within plot surrounded polythene barriers applying an insecticide (fonofos) such plots. Plots set up March, April, May June development aphid them compared with unenclosed control areas. 3. The numbers caught enclosed fonofos-treated plots...
(1) Earthworm populations in direct drilled and ploughed plots were assessed twice annually for 5 years a continuous cereal experiment at Woburn. (2) In two other experiments, on cereals Rothamsted Boxworth, of earthworms from the fourth to eighth cropping. The cultivations compared deep ploughing, chisel ploughing drilling. (3) Populations burrowing Lumbricus terrestris Allolobophora longa became much greater than and, after 8 drilling, 17.5 37.3 times more numerous plots, Boxworth...
