ABSTRACT
The authors sought to delineate the characteristics of female alcoholics with eating disorders.The study subjects were 29 Japanese outpatients and inpatients, 30 years age or younger, DSM-III-R diagnoses either alcohol dependence abuse disorders. Twenty-one within same range who did not have disorders served as comparison group. social familial backgrounds, clinical course, symptoms two groups compared use a structured interview form developed for study.Ninety-three percent had bulimia nervosa; 52% anorexia nervosa. In all cases, both continued after onset problem drinking. distributions alcoholic clearly differed: no one in group was under 24, number increased whereas ranged from 19 years, greatest at 26.
