A metallographical investigation of manganess-aluminum system was made in the compositional range 47% to 60% manganese, with results a new hexagonal close-packed phase and metastable tetragonal ferromagnetic derived therefrom. The conditions necessary for formation, structure, stability thermal magnetic properties latter have been studied. discussion also given on its properties.

A complex iridium oxide β-Li(2)IrO(3) crystallizes in a hyperhoneycomb structure, three-dimensional analogue of honeycomb lattice, and is found to be spin-orbital Mott insulator with J(eff)=1/2 moment. Ir ions are connected the three neighboring via Ir-O(2)-Ir bonding planes, which very likely gives rise bond-dependent ferromagnetic interactions between moments, an essential ingredient Kitaev model spin liquid ground state. Dominant interaction moments indeed confirmed by temperature...

Abstract The excitonic insulator is a long conjectured correlated electron phase of narrow-gap semiconductors and semimetals, driven by weakly screened electron–hole interactions. Having been proposed more than 50 years ago, conclusive experimental evidence for its existence remains elusive. Ta 2 NiSe 5 semiconductor with small one-electron bandgap E G <50 meV. Below T C =326 K, putative stabilized. Here we report an optical excitation gap op ∼0.16 eV below comparable to the estimated...

The relationship between the low Km aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) phenotype determined by isoelectric focusing of hair root lysates, facial flushing and alcohol drinking patterns in Japanese (N = 282) was examined. Men who had inactive ALDH2 drank significantly less than those with active ALDH2. Although effect noticeable, a similar detected women. Two types responses were determined: one due to ALDH2, other unrelated this variant form isozyme. A striking difference these types, terms...

Novel unsymmetrical squarylium dyes which absorb in the near-infrared region were synthesized by a stepwise procedure via intermediate 4-substituted 3-hydroxycyclobut-3-ene-1,2-diones. By introducing benz[c,d]indoline or benzo[b]pyran moieties at one end as an electron-donating component, SQ exhibited their absorption maxima 739–821 nm with large molar coefficients (log ε = 4.96–5.18) CHCl3. The X-ray analysis for of these was also examined to confirm overall structure dye.
