ABSTRACT
Objective
To investigate the distribution and characteristics of central swallowing cortex in normal adults.
Methods
Blood-oxygen level dependent functional MRIs (BOLD-fMRIs) were recorded from 10 normal, right-handed volunteers during swallowing. The volume activated activation intensity recorded.
Results
During experiment there significant differences but not between BA4, BA40, BA32 BA13 areas on two sides. No observed either or BA6/8 BA24 areas. Moreover, significantly more left hemisphere when than right hemisphere, with laterality index value being 15.22%.
Conclusion
Normal adults' volitional is triggered area insula BA24/32 anterior cingulate cortex. It planned BA40 supramarginal gyrus BA6 8 implemented primary motor pharynx oralis. One clearly dominates cortical control swallowing.
