ABSTRACT
Objective
To evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy safety of intense pulsed light (IPL) versus 595-nm dye laser (PDL) for treatment post-acne erythema.
Methods
A randomized split-face trial was conducted. A total 20 patients with erythema were enrolled, to receive IPL on one half face PDL other facial side once every 4 weeks 3 sessions. Digital photographs taken using VISIA, index recorded before each month after last treatment. The severity bilateral evaluated based a 4-point grading scale first Pain scores adverse reactions visual analogue (VAS) treatment, patient satisfaction survey conducted by questionnaire at follow-up.
Results
The mean 472.25 ± 86.02 357.15 82.71 respectively, that 476.40 74.25 360.05 64.83 respectively. Repeated measures analysis variance (ANOVA) showed indices both treated sides significantly decreased over time (F= 197.666, P 0.05) . included erythema, burning sensation, tense blistering hyperpigmentation IPL-treated side, purpuric PDL-treated which all disappeared in few hours several days.
Conclusions
Both are effective safe worthy promotion application. shows superiority efficacy, but elicits higher pain sensation compared PDL.
