Bilateral big toe wrap-around flap for reconstruction of the distal segment of the thumb

ABSTRACT
Objective To introduce the sm'gical procedure of reconstructing distal segment thumb using combined bilateral big toe wrap-around flap. Methods A partial fibular side flap was harvested from both toes. The flaps were tailored and designed based on measurements taken intact side. These two like "nfirror image" to reconstruct thumb. Results This technique used in 6 thumbs cases. All transplants survived. patients follow-up for 3 9 months. reconstructed had full pulp. Two-point discrimination 5.0 8.0mm. appearance looked real with normal growing nail. There no impairment joint movement function. Donor sites could be directly closed healed uneventfully. No walking problems encountered. Conclusion Reconstruction causes less trauma donor by preserving shape nail looks near normal. surgical is an ideal method fin~er reconstruction.
