The clinical value of serum procalcitonin in diagnosis and treatment for the patients with acute fever

Objective To investigate the clinical value of serum procalcitonin (PCT) in diagnosis and treatment patients with high fever acute illness.Methods A total 285 febrile suffered from illness were divided into conventional group (n =122) PCT =163).The routine blood examination level C-reactive protein (CRP) detection carried out for dignosis these patiens two groups,and addition,serum determination was group.The comnfirmed by etiology or immunologic assays.Routine guidelines administrating antibiotics used group.Whereas antibiotic therapy given to guided levels.Two groups compared respect costs,duration antibiotics,percentage treated antibiotics,efficiency mortality rate.The further as per inflammatory markers bacterial infection three subgroups,namely group,viral non-infection group.At last,the relationship between prognosis analyzed.Results The cost antibiotics,and course (Y) (3586.5 ± 703.3),95.08％ (15.01 11.21) days,respectively group,whereas (1871.2 433.5),54.60％,(11.22 ±7.10) days statistically significant difference (P ＜ 0.01),but there no differences efficiency ＞ 0.05).Serum (1.12 0.88) ng/ml higher than that both virus infected (0.21 0.1 1) non-infected (0.18 0.13) ng/ml.There statistics 0.05).The better other because had sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive (PPV) negative (NPV).Conclusions Serum reliable differentiate nature evaluate emergency physicians.There an important significance rational use guidance levels.
