ABSTRACT
Objective: To investigate refractive errors and associated factors among Tujia teenagers in Youyang County of Chongqing. Methods: Urban rural students (n=973) from four middle high schools Chongqing were selected by random cluster sampling. Visual acuity was checked auto refractometry, retinoscopy performed after pupil dilation 1% cyclopentanone. Factors related to visual acuity, parental status including outdoor activities, recorded. Statistical analyses Pearson chi-square test Spearman correlation analyses. Results: The prevalence myopia [spherical equivalent (SE) ≤-0.50 diopter (D)], hyperopia (SE≥+0.50 D), astigmatism (≤-0.50 D) 66.3% (645 cases), 17.5% (170 15.1% (147 cases) respectively. Twenty-five (2.6%) had myopia. Males a lower (59.8%) than females (72.5%) ( χ2=17.53, P < 0.001). Urban (77.9%) higher (51.6%) χ2=74.12, The increased with age χ2=84.70, 0.001), while the decreased χ2=78.30, In myopes incidence both parents or only one parent greater compared non-myopes χ2=10.85, P=0.001; χ2=56.01, 0.001 respectively). Outdoor activities correlated reduction (r2=0.781, 0.001). Conclusions: Male County, Chongqing, China. students. Myopia activities. Key words: Tujia minority; refractive error; myopia; epidemiology
