ABSTRACT
Rosa species are widely distributed in Turkey. Ethanolic extracts from flowers and leaves of R. horrida, one of the 25 species of Rosa used as a traditional Turkish medicine tonic, diuretic, expectorant, stomachic for treatment dyspepsia, diarrhea nephritis were tested in vitro for their ability to scavenge DPPH·, ABTS·+ and superoxide radicals, reduce Fe (III) (II) inhibit peroxidation phophatidylcholine liposomes induced with ascorbate/Fe order establish relashionship between antioxidant potency content phenolic compounds. Flowers showed high DPPH radical scavenging activity shown by lowest value EC50, indicating strong hydrogen-donating ability. The similar metal chelation Fe2+-ferrozin test, reducing power ABTS·+ radical cation small differences EC50 values, since EC50 values found be highest TBA suggesting that less effective protection lipid peroxidation. activities correlated well total flavonoid contents, may play an important role chemical oxidative damage possessing endogenious antioxidants, such phenolics flavonoids.
