This study has two principal objectives. The first objective is to measure and compare the performance of European railways. second illustrate usefulness econometric distance functions in analysis production multioutput industries, where behavioural assumptions such as cost minimization or profit maximization, are unlikely be applicable. Using annual data on 17 railways companies during 1988–1993, estimated using corrected ordinary least squares (COLS). resulting technical efficiency...
The aim of the present paper is to examine observed differences in Students' test performance across public and private‐voucher schools Spain. For this purpose, we explicitly consider that education a multi‐input multi‐output production process subject inefficient behaviors, which can be identified at student level using parametric stochastic distance function approach. empirical application model, based on Spanish data from Programme for International Student Assessment implemented by...
In this paper, we describe the changes of (early) retirement programs over time and study link between trends in elderly labor force participation youth unemployment. From a theoretical point view, there is no convincing argument that idea lump-of-labor should hold. Our empirical results comfort finding, indicate very weak link, if any, activity among young prime-age populations.
The objective of this paper is to estimate total factor productivity growth (TFP) in an international and sectoral setting using two alternative approaches based on the estimation parametric stochastic frontiers non‐parametric production (DEA). TFP decomposed into components, technological progress efficiency change, that can also be interpreted as results innovation catching‐up process, respectively. Finally their relationship tested with a set potential explanatory variables includes...
