This books researches human bone modifications and their implications, based on the study of Mesolithic assemblage from 'grotte des Perrats' (Charente, France). The evidence produced implies cannibalism among population.
Significance Gravettian mortuary practices provide a key perspective on social complexity during the Upper Paleolithic. Such inferences have been drawn mostly from formal burials relatively abundant for this period. Here we present bioanthropological study of Grotte de Cussac, decorated cave with human remains deposited floor. These bone accumulations correspond to several forms deposition (a whole body, body parts surface, and dry bones in bear nests), plus displacement removal elements...
Higher education in evolutionary anthropology involves providing students with in-depth knowledge of biological and cultural heritage sites collections that are frequently inaccessible. Indeed, most sites, fossils, archaeological remains can be visited or manipulated only rarely solely by specialists extensive experience. Owing to the development 3D medical imaging techniques, this fragile is now more widely accessible, a dynamic way. However, exclusive adoption virtual teaching learning has...
This study presents preliminary results of recent explorations at Iroungou (Gabon), a pre-colonial burial cave containing scattered skeletal remains least 28 men, women and children. The individuals, whose crania show cultural tooth ablation, were buried with abundant metallic objects, combination no known equivalent in West Central Africa.
Summary Polychrome alabaster carvings, representing religious scenes, constitute England's major contribution to European mediaeval sculpture. During the period between 1350 and 1550, large number of carvings were produced in Midlands. Despite their massive destruction during English Reformation (ca.1534), more than 2500 them still survive, either legally exported or sold clandestinely Continent. With 100 panels existing, Bordeaux region holds one largest concentrations these reliefs. Most...
Cependant, jusqu’a tres recemment, l’utilisation restait ane...
Abstract Introduction Our knowledge of the populations sub‐Saharan Africa in periods before European colonization is limited. Few archeological sites containing human remains have been identified, and written sources for these are rare. The discovery 2018 Iroungou sepulchral cave (Gabon), whose use predates arrival Portuguese (14th–15th centuries CE), an exceptional source information: at least 28 individuals associated with numerous metal artifacts were found there. anthropobiological left...

The 3D reconstructionof an archaeological site is a difficult task, taking into account the available documentation. Our team, supported by TGE Adonis, specialized in reconstruction and conservation of data. We already use numerous sources, like excavation documentation, ancient texts, any kind representation, land surveys, in-situ pictures, laser or time flight scannography, experiments archaeologists, anthropologists architects. Since 80's, each model we produce are scientifically checked...
The site of Lalibela is the result Tertiary volcanic activity which led to formation a vast outcrop basaltic slag from churches were carved. This reddish rock particularly suitable for carving, extremely interactive with water. It was beneficial impressive excavation phases, but now problematic conservation purposes. Digging meant either penetration water into massif and its erosion, also protection monuments stagnation. very paradoxical situation in plays an alternately positive negative...
Abstract The earliest monumentality in Western Europe is associated with megalithic structures, but where did the builders of these monuments live? Here, authors focus on west-central France, one centres building Atlantic Europe, commencing mid fifth millennium BC. They report an enclosure at Le Peu (Charente), dated to Middle Neolithic ( c . 4400 BC), and defined by a ditch two ‘crab claw’ entrances double timber palisade flanked structures—possibly defensive bastions. Inside,...
