Metastable crystalline and amorphous phases were obtained by pulsed-laser quenching of thin Au-Ti Cr-Ti films. Subsequent furnace annealing was found to convert metastable modifications into ones for certain compositions in both systems. In ${\mathrm{Cr}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Ti}}_{x}$ ($x\ensuremath{\sim}0.7$), a further step at higher temperature leads back the initial phase, thus making possible repeated transitions simple thermal cycling. This phenomenon is unrelated fast...
A comprehensive range of aerosol parameters was measured at an urban and a rural site in the Milan, Italy metropolitan region during summer smog events 1998. Measurements were performed as part Pianura Padana Produzione di Ozono (PIPAPO) field campaign to determine sensitivity O 3 production NO X volatile organic carbon concentrations several ground stations. Primary (i.e., direct emissions) such black showed distinct diurnal variation with maxima about 0000 0800 central European time...
Cryogenic thermal cycling (CTC) is an effective treatment for improving the room-temperature plasticity and toughness in metallic glasses. Despite considerable attention to characterizing effects of CTC, they remain poorly understood. A prominent example that, contrary expectation, stored energy a glass first rises, then decreases, as CTC progresses. In this work, applied bulk glasses based on Pd, Pt, Ti, or Zr. The calorimetric mechanical properties are evaluated. Critically, CTC-induced...
Abstract. The exchange of Ammonia (NH3) between grassland and the atmosphere was determined using Relaxed Eddy Accumulation (REA) measurements. use REA is special interest for NH3, since determination fluxes at one height permits multiple systems to be deployed quantify vertical flux divergence (either due effects chemical production or advection). During Braunschweig integrated experiment four different continuous-sampling were operated during a period about 10 days compared against...
We present ground‐based and aircraft measurements of photochemically relevant trace gases from the southern part Switzerland summer 1994. The region is adjacent to Po Valley exhibits highest ozone concentrations within Switzerland. O 3 up 166 parts per billion by volume (ppbv) were measured. Isoprene was ppbv on ground 0.3 at 1000 m altitude average in afternoon dominates volatile organic compound (VOC) reactivity toward OH ground. Measured HONO 0.2 are much higher, as can be explained gas...
The effect of additions C, Si, Ca, Sc and La at levels 0.1, 0.3 1.0 atomic percent on the glass forming ability alloy Zr52.5Cu17.9Ni14.6Al10Ti5 has been investigated by means metallography, X-ray diffraction oxygen analysis using wedge shaped castings. In original alloy, a very marked influence is observed even low concentrations. Low amounts additional elements were found to significantly. Adding alloys containing 100–120 ppm increases from 4.5 10 mm in terms amorphous ingot thickness....
Concentration profiles of N 2 O in a grassland soil and dynamic response curves to disturbance the concentration (relaxation curves) were measured with new membrane tube technique. Diffusive properties derived from 222 Rn measurements. The mathematical analysis relaxation yielded uptake rates U diffusivities D s , scale lengths z * production P at different levels under surface. following ranges found during days measurements: = (0.4–5) × 10 −7 m −1 (1–20) −4 0.7–2.8 cm, 0.02–4.4 ppb . These...
We describe a new process that enables the formation of amorphous Cr40Ti60 cubelets with dimensions in millimeter range by sequence standard metallurgical procedures. Vitrification occurs spontaneously during low-temperature furnace annealing. The resulting material contains small-grained crystalline inclusions. Mechanically, results marked increase microhardness and decrease elastic modulus material.
Certain metastable metallic crystals spontaneously vitrify upon low-temperature annealing, as recently demonstrated for the high-temperature solid solution of Cr and Ti. The driving force vitrification process can be accounted by concomitant decrease in lattice strain energy. Predictions a number binary phases are made compared with preliminary experimental results. Spontaneous is found systems Co-Nb, Cr-Ti, Cu-Ti, Fe-Ti, Mn-Ti, Nb-Ni.
Here we present measurements of surface tension and viscosity the bulk glass-forming alloy Pd43Cu27Ni10P20 performed during containerless processing under reduced gravity. We applied oscillating drop method in an electromagnetic levitation facility on board parabolic flights. The measured exhibits a pronounced temperature dependence following Arrhenius law over range from 1100 K to 1450 K. Together with literature values at lower temperatures, can be well described by free volume model....
