We estimate the mass of intermediate-mass black hole at heart dwarf elliptical galaxy NGC 404 using Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations molecular interstellar medium an unprecedented linear resolution ~0.5 pc, in combination with existing stellar kinematic information. These ALMA reveal a central disc/torus gas clearly rotating around hole. This disc is surrounded by morphologically and kinematically complex flocculent distribution clouds, that we resolve detail....
As part of the mm-Wave Interferometric Survey Dark Object Masses (WISDOM) project we present an estimate mass supermassive black hole (SMBH) in nearby fast-rotating early-type galaxy NGC4429, that is barred and has a boxy/peanut-shaped bulge. This based on Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) cycle-2 observations 12CO(3-2) emission line with linear resolution ~13 pc (0"18x0"14). NGC4429 relaxed, flocculent nuclear disc molecular gas truncated at small radii, likely due to...
Statistics that capture the directional dependence of baryon distribution in cosmic web enable unique tests cosmology and astrophysical feedback. We use constrained oriented stacking thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) maps to measure anisotropic hot gas $2.5-40$ Mpc away from galaxy clusters embedded massive filaments superclusters. The cluster selection orientation (at a scale $\sim15$ Mpc) Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 3 data, while expanded tSZ Atacama Cosmology Telescope Data Release 6...
In this study, we explore the characteristics of `low-mass' (log( ≤ 8) and `intermediate-mass' (8 $<$ log( 10) host galaxies Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from second data release (DR2) Zwicky Transient Facility survey. We investigated their correlations with different sub-types SNe Ia. used photospheric velocities measured feature, SALT2 light-curve stretch (x_1), host-galaxy properties to re-investigate existing relationship between galaxy mass velocities. also sub-type preferences for...
ABSTRACT Contextual admissions schemes are commonly used across the United Kingdom (UK) for admission into higher education (HE) institutions. These consider an applicant's background and circumstances alongside academic achievement to provide a fairer evaluation of progression university. Several contextual factors have been considered by HE providers few evaluated in literature. However, University Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) Multiple Equality Measure (MEM), introduced 2018, is yet...
Our understanding of the $\gamma$-ray sky has improved dramatically in past decade, however, unresolved background (UGRB) still a potential wealth information about faintest sources pervading Universe. Statistical cross-correlations with tracers cosmic structure can indirectly identify populations that most characterize background. In this study, we analyze angular correlation between and matter distribution Universe as traced by gravitational lensing, leveraging more than decade...
As part of the mm-Wave Interferometric Survey Dark Object Masses (WISDOM), we present a measurement mass supermassive black hole (SMBH) in nearby early-type galaxy NGC 0383 (radio source 3C 031). This is based on Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-milimeter Array (ALMA) cycle 4 and 5 observations 12CO(2-1) emission line with spatial resolution 58x32pc2 (0."18x0."1). resolution, combined channel width 10 km/s, allows us to well resolve radius sphere influence (measured as R_SOI = 316pc 0."98),...
We present high angular resolution (0.3" or 37 pc) Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) observations of the CO(2-1) line emission from a central disc in early-type galaxy NGC 524. This is shown to be dynamically relaxed, exhibiting ordered rotation about compact 1.3mm continuum source, which we identify as an active supermassive black hole (SMBH). There at centre slightly larger than SMBH sphere influence. An azimuthal distortion observed velocity field found due either...
We present high spatial resolution (12pc) Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array CO(J=3-2) observations of the nearby lenticular galaxy NGC4429. identify 217 giant molecular clouds within 450pc radius gas disc. The generally have smaller sizes and masses but higher surface densities observed linewidths than those Milky Way disc clouds. An unusually steep size - line width relation large cloud internal velocity gradients (0.05 0.91 km s^-1 pc^-1) Virial parameters (alpha_obs,vir = 4.0)...
Supermassive black hole (SMBH) masses can be measured by resolving the dynamical influences of SMBHs on spatially-resolved tracers central potentials. Modern long-baseline interferometers have enabled use molecular gas as such a tracer. We present here Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations elliptical galaxy NGC 7052 at 0.11 arcseconds (37 pc) resolution in 12CO(2-1) line and 1.3mm continuum emission. This is sufficient to resolve region which potential dominated SMBH....
We present far-infrared maps and spectroscopy for a number of deeply embedded protostellar objects (CepE, HH211-MM, IC1396W, L1157, L1211, RNO15FIR) from data that we acquired with the ISO instruments PHOT LWS. Several previously undetected sources are found in vicinity our targets. determine temperatures luminosities seven locate them on Lbol-Tbol diagram - equivalent to Hertzsprung-Russell protostars. Their masses ages, according their location tracks taken evolutionary model, derived....
Empirical correlations between the masses of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) and properties their host galaxies are well-established. Among these is correlation with flat rotation velocity each galaxy measured either at a large radius in its curve or via spatially-integrated emission line width. We propose here use de-projected integrated CO width as an alternative tracer this velocity, that has already been shown useful for Tully-Fisher (luminosity-rotation velocity) relation. investigate...
We present high-resolution (synthesised beam size 0."088x0."083 or 25x23 pc$^2$) Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA) $^{12}$CO(2-1) line and 236 GHz continuum observations, as well 5 enhanced Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (e-MERLIN) of NGC 0708; the brightest galaxy in low-mass cluster Abell 262. The observations reveal a turbulent, rotating disc molecular gas core galaxy, high-velocity, blue-shifted feature ~0."4 (~113 pc) from its centre. sub-millimetre...
ABSTRACT The mm-Wave Interferometric Survey of Dark Object Masses (WISDOM) is probing supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in galaxies across the Hubble sequence via molecular gas dynamics. We present first WISDOM study a luminous infrared galaxy with an active galactic nuclei (AGNs): Fairall 49. use new ALMA observations CO(2 − 1) line spatial resolution ∼80 pc together ancillary HST imaging. reach following results: (1) CO kinematics are well described by regularly rotating disc radial inflow...
The rates at which mass accumulates into protostellar cores can now be predicted in numerical simulations. Our purpose here is to develop methods compare the statistical properties of protostars with observable parameters. This requires (1) an evolutionary scheme convert numerically-derived accretion tracks and (2) a technique observed statistics protostars. Here, we use 3D-Kolmogorov-Smirnov test quantitatively model observations Class0 We find that wide range functions timescales...
ABSTRACT We present a study of molecular structures (clumps and clouds) in the dwarf galaxy NGC 404 using high-resolution (≈0.86 × 0.51 pc2) Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array 12CO(2-1) observations. find two distinct regions 404: gravitationally stable central region (Toomre parameter Q = 3–30) unstable ring (Q ≲ 1). The have steeper size–linewidth relation larger virial parameters than those ring, suggesting gas is more turbulent former. In clumps exhibit shallower mass–size...
The mass ($M_\mathrm{BH}$) of a supermassive black hole (SMBH) can be measured using spatially-resolved kinematics the region where SMBH dominates gravitationally. most reliable measurements are those that resolve smallest physical scales around SMBHs. We consider here three metrics to compare probed by kinematic tracers dominated rotation: radius innermost detected tracer $R_\mathrm{min}$ normalised respectively SMBH's Schwarzschild ($R_\mathrm{Schw}\equiv 2GM_\mathrm{BH}/c^2$, $G$ is...
Molecular outflows and the jets which may drive them can be expected to display signatures associated with rotation if they are channels through angular momentum is extracted from material accreting on protostars. Here, we determine some basic of rapidly rotating flows three-dimensional numerical simulations hydrodynamic molecular cooling chemistry. Bipolar outflows are driven from protostars within molecular cores. They drive into clouds, generating shock waves whose emission lines have been observed in the infrared with ISO. We present spectroscopic data for seven locations two asymmetric outflows, Cepheus A and L 1448, order to test physics dynamics. Here, we simultaneously interpret CO H2 sets which generated by shocked gas, radiating at temperatures 300 2000 K. find that large-scale spatial variations excitation absent across both...
