Although most paleomagnetic and environmental magnetic papers incorporate a Day plot of the hysteresis parameters M rs / s versus H cr c , comprehensive theory covering superparamagnetic (SP), single‐domain (SD), pseudo‐single‐domain (PSD), multidomain (MD) (titano)magnetites is lacking. There no consensus on how to quantify grain‐size trends within plot, distinguish MD from SP trends/mixtures, or whether magnetite, titanomagnetites, other minerals have distinctive by which they might be...

At the Verwey transition (T v ≈110–120 K), magnetite transforms from monoclinic to cubic spinel structure. It has long been believed that magnetic remanence and susceptibility would change markedly at T in case of coarse grains but only slightly or inappreciably fine (<1 µm) grains. We find on contrary changes by 50–80% both large small crystals, if they are stoichiometric. However, minor surface oxidation suppresses transition, fact oxidize more readily leads an apparent size dependence....

Particle size distributions have been obtained by grain counts on electron micrographs of four samples containing submicroscopic equant magnetite particles. Blocking temperature data indicate thermally unstable (superparamagnetic, SPM) magnetic behavior in one sample whose grains range from 100 to 650 A size. The SPM is confirmed a large increase saturation remanence when the hysteresis measured at 77°K. Quantitative estimates SPM, single-domain (SD), and multidomain (MD) magnetization...

Fluorescence exclusively occurs from the lowest excited state of a given multiplicity according to Kasha's rule. However, this rule is not obeyed by handful anti-Kasha fluorophores whose underlying mechanism still understood merely on phenomenological basis. This lack understanding prevents rational design and property-tuning fluorophores. Here, we propose model explaining photophysical properties an archetypal fluorophore, azulene, based its ground- excited-state (anti)aromaticity. We...
